For those friends who I think are interested in religions, whether heavily into them or totally against them, or just open-minded and curious, please give this blog a try. It’s going to be fascinating and is not for or against religion or religions. It is being written by a friend who has a BA and MA in Comparative Religions and does not share personal views or opinions – just facts. She is a great writer and I think you’ll find this interesting reading. I, for one, would love to be more educated about various religions.

I love it! I’ve got a BA in religion and biology and an MA in Buddhist studies, and I consider myself a religion geek. Looking forward to reading.

Very interesting stuff, like you before settling on my right path (maybe not like you) I did extensive research, some of it was just for curiosity about that religion, some in searching. I had a library rich in books on Islam, Hinduism, Wicca, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Eckankar to name some. Before making a move across country I opened my home to a book sale, some comments I received were so startling One man looked up at me questioning Are you even a Christian? I inwardly smiled and knew I had so much more knowledge and wisdom than he could ever have achieved with his narrow thinking.

I just discovered your website from a facebook link.  I applaud your intelligent writing and openness to diverse religious perspectives.  I am always on the outlook for openness such as you show on your site.  I agree with you about the “Rev.” Fred Phelps.  How this man can consider himself a Minister of the Word of God, I do not understand.  I hope to hear from you soon and will add you to my prayers, as I believe that you are a voice for tolerance and understanding in a world in such desperate need in these times.    May the Divine Mother Bless your Work!

We appear to be a matched set.

I also have had an obsessive fascination with religion.

I have still not been able to figure out how people can be aware that
there are tens of thousands of faith groups in the world, teaching very
different beliefs, and yet most are absolutely certain that their set of
beliefs is the only correct one.

Many people know that if the stork had been blown off course before they
were born, they might well be following a different religion today. For
example, if it landed in Jerusalem instead of the Gaza Strip they might
well end up being Jews hating Muslims instead of the reverse.

I spotted your website ULR when it was advertised by Google on our
website. It looks like a real gem. Keep up the good work.

  1. LOVE the blog. Also, I’m very excited to see that you’ve opened yourself up to proponents, the curious, AND opponents (the denomination to which I proudly subscribe.) I, too, was intrigued by the facebook “targeted ad.” The nomenclature you’ve chosen to identify yourself is one I use fairly regularly myself. I am a serious nerd, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. In regards to your article on easter, I had a very enlightening dork-out session around St. Patrick’s day. I remember in my Sunday school (indoctrination), We were told the story about St. Patrick “Banishing all the Snakes from Ireland with his staff.” Seems he was told by God “in a dream” that it was a good idea to spread Christianity to Ireland. Problem was, the Druids (the Pagans residing there at the time) were perfectly content with their very sophisticated society based on nature and art and song (through which the “Bards,” or minstrels, kept the history of the druids in songs.) They had a sophisticated system of impartial mediation for their problems, religious clerics who acted as psychologists and worked through people’s problems, etc… After finding that they would not be swayed, they turned to another tactic. Armies were brought in by the church, and the Pagan sacred sites were demolished, afterwords having Churches erected on their rubble. When this, also, did not work, they began killing all the Bards and other high clerics. I believe this is about the time Queen Elizabeth I decreed that all artists and musicians in Ireland be hanged on the spot. Oh, and the Druids’ main religious symbol was the Serpent: hence “Banished all the Snakes from Ireland.” Very sad and unjust, but good metaphorical writing on behalf of the bible? For this “spreading of Christianity to Ireland” (or genocide and erasure of a people’s history) St. Patrick was awarded sainthood by his church.

Anyways, keep the truth coming! Also, if you haven’t already, check out ” http://skepticsannotatedbible.com ” it’s a great resource. I love a well researched writer! Equality, One Love, Peace, etc..
